The Cahaba Environmental Center (CEC) at Living River is an outdoor education organization devoted to hands-on, inquiry-based learning. Located on 440 acres at a deep bend of the Cahaba River, the CEC is home to 1-5 day education programs for students of all ages. The CEC also hosts teacher workshops and field science school for colleges and universities.

The Cahaba Environmental Center (CEC) at Living River: A Retreat on the Cahaba, Inc. is excited to announce the addition of Faith Bailey to our team as the Communications Associate. She was formerly the Program Assistant at Crestfield Camp and Conference Center, Inc. in Slippery Rock, Pennsylvania. Faith is passionate about continuing the impact camp had on her by bringing new generations into the community built at camp. She is excited to start a new journey from the environmental camp perspective while utilizing her previous expertise. Faith has a background in adventure education and brings a plethora of outdoor experience including high and low rope courses, backpacking, mountaineering, canoeing, climbing, repelling, and caving. She is excited to continue to build the community of the CEC. In her free time, Faith is an avid reader and will give any book a chance. She also enjoys trying new recipes, playing with her cat, and exploring her new home in Alabama. You can reach Faith at email@example.com.
Living River is excited to announce the addition of Lauren Allred to our team as the Cahaba Environmental Center (CEC) Director. Lauren has a B.S.E in Elementary and Collaborative Education and a M.S.E. in Elementary Education from Jacksonville State University. She is a former elementary school teacher in the Anniston region. Lauren has been involved in the Presbytery of Sheppards and Lapsley camping program since she was a camper at Gulftreat and is excited to marry her love of teaching and camp by becoming the CEC Director. Executive Director, Rev. Betty Angelini, is thrilled with Lauren’s passion for the mission and ministry of Living River and her desire to share the Environmental Center’s educational programs throughout Alabama in new and creative ways. Lauren believes the opportunity to educate as many children and adults about the impact the Cahaba River has on Alabamians and the impact Alabamians in turn have on the Cahaba River is an essential mission for the CEC. By supporting sponsorships and providing pathways to children and adults from all walks of life to learn about the environment through hands-on experiences, Living River’s CEC can help the river of knowledge, passion, and community spring forth and flow for generations. Lee Walthall, Board Chair, indicated that adding Lauren to the leadership team at Living River is a wonderful plus. Lauren will begin her new positon on Jan.2, 2018.
